pre-sale steals

By Andy on June 30, 2014

Our neighbors, Kelly & G, kindly gave us a garage sale preview recently, and we picked up some bargains. We love this unusually shaped vase. I’ve used this retro juicer multiple times already. And we had to get these serving trays…though they’ll likely just sit in the cupboard.

We also snagged this minimal gray planter, and promptly filled it with variegated grasses. We love how it looks –shame they didn’t have a matching pair for sale. Obviously an impulse buy, so we’re yet to pick a landing spot. But we will soon.

I’ve saved our best score for last, but I’m only giving you a sneak peek. Clue #1: it looks like a surfboard. Clue #2: it isn’t. Here’s a closeup, and I’m sure you’ll guess what it is. You can also see it needs a little help. And help is what it got.

It was a whole weekend’s work, but the results are worth the effort –I can hardly wait to share. But I will have to wait, as I haven’t written the post yet. I also desperately need to show you what we’ve been doing in the kitchen…

Ha! I just refinished a coffee table last night, too! Although considering I found my for only $10 and it’s decidedly not surfboard shaped, I’m guessing yours will be much cooler. Can’t wait to see!

What a coincidence, Olivia! Look forward to seeing your results. Actually, ours didn’t cost too much more than that –but we got ‘mates rates’ (as we say in England) because they wanted it to go to a good home.

It actually needed a little more than that. It was a fair bit of work (for my inexperienced hands) but very happy with the results. Will post pics soon.

Can’t wait for the refinishing reveal! That gorgeous wood grain is going to shine through after some TLC.

Hey Karolina! The grain is stunning, and has come out well. Hope to post in the next few days…

That pot is most likely from IKEA – I have one just like it. They still have them in stock, at least at the store near me.

I’m also very interested to see the refinishing project. I’m about to refinish a mid-century walnut dining room table so I’ll looking for tips!

Hey Andy! Sorry, missed your comment ’til now. Someone else suggested the pot might be from IKEA, but I can’t see the same type there. This is ceramic, and pretty heavy. It’s also very uniform in color –on the gray side, with just a hint of brown. If you still think they stock it, please let me know. I will eventually get round to posting the coffee table! I’m no refinishing expert, but hopefully you’ll get something from it.
