eichlerversary three
Three years ago, we set foot in our Eichler for the first time. We bought on the strength of photos and videos, including this one, shot by the listing agent. We’ve watched it hundreds of times, not counting the constant loop we ran during the tour –here it is again, in all its brown and orange glory…
The house itself looks in decent shape, and it was, but we still painted, stripped, sanded or replaced every surface. In the process, we removed the ‘old wood’ smell, undetectable via video. We think we’ve improved things. Some recent pics, so you can judge for yourself…
Living/dining…
All-purpose room…
Kitchen…
Master bedroom…
And a rare evening view…
Just a snapshot –for more changes, click here. Talking of changes, we just made a BIG one, selling our business. We’ve been crazy-busy, hence the lack of posts. We’ll be back in the groove soon. First though, we’re off to celebrate our Eichlerversary, poolside –how we love our Eichler neighbors. More soon…
Brooke
So much better! If a house could breathe a sigh of relief I think yours would be 🙂 It probably looks better now than it ever did even when new!
Andy
Thanks so much for the kind words, Brooke! Oh, how we would love to see the house new. Amazing to think every wall would be wood-paneling, with redwood ceilings, and brown cork flooring. I’m thinking it would’ve been pretty dark in here…but beautiful. We’re happy with how it looks now though.
Amy Moore
Beautiful, classic, comfortable and obviously beloved.
Andy
Aww, thanks for the kind words, Amy! We certainly do love our home.

Hi Andy. Wonderful. All the work you have done has really been worthwhile, and you have transformed the house into the home you are proud of – justifiably so. Brilliant, and thanks for the posting.
Andy
Hi Tony, and thank you! We are proud of what we’ve done. Not finished yet though! Our pleasure to post, as always.

Your choices are beautiful. May you have many more happy years in your Eichler. Funny side note- my husband and I spent a total of 5 mins in our house from the first sight to when we closed escrow. The sellers would not let us in any other time other than the open house, which was the day of my husband’s grandmother’s funeral. We had to run to see the home and then make the services. So we took a video while there that we must have watched 1,000 times during escrow. Buying Eichlers basically sight unseen is a true testament to their appeal!
Andy
Thank you, Ivy! Glad you like our choices. Great story! I had no idea you guys had such a brief intro to your house before buying –when you know, you know, right?! And you clearly know what it’s like to obsess over an Eichler via video. Kind of appropriate, based on Kyle’s occupation! Side note: we watched this video so many times, I edited it with a different soundtrack. This music gets pretty irritating after a while!
John
Did you get info on the neighboorhood before deciding?
Andy
Yes, John. We read masses of articles, forums etc, and walked the whole neighborhood via Street View. We concluded this was a great neighborhood, and so it’s proved. Our biggest surprise was the city itself –great food and drink, vibrant arts/design community, and warm, welcoming people. It’s vastly underrated, in our opinion, and just keeps getting better.
Karen
Congrats our dear friends. Big celebration due soon. Big time!
Andy
Thank you, Karen! We look forward to it!
Gabriel
It only took me a couple weeks, with a quick pause while we vacationed in Maui, but I finally read through every blog post. So incredible and inspiring. If you happen to ever see a black Volvo wagon or green Land Rover making several passes on your street, it just us taking it all in…please don’t call 911! Haha.
Andy
Hi Gabriel! Thanks for taking the time to follow our journey –I really must look back myself at some point. I have no idea what I wrote 2-3 years back! Anyway, so pleased you enjoyed it. We’re not finished yet, but we’re taking a “quick pause” ourselves, while we figure out our next move. We’re on one of the busier neighborhood streets, so we really wouldn’t notice an extra car or two! But we’re happy you’re checking it out. If you give us a little notice (next time you’re around) we’ll give you a tour of our place –we’re in a a mess right now, as we’re mid-project. Anyway, hope to catch up with you soon…
