building permit
Not long after we moved here, I managed to get hold of the building permit for our lot. Interestingly (to us, at least) the square footage is stated as 1564, when ours is more like 1725 (and 1710 on MLS). Eichler must have originally planned to build a smaller model.
The permit confirms our house was built in 1955, along with most of our neighborhood, but our purchase paperwork states 1954 –incorrectly, it seems. Somewhat amusingly (after the fact) we paid a “pre-1955” premium for our home inspection. Too late to request a refund?
It’s a very simple permit, so not much else to glean. Coincidentally, the “form” date is my birthday –though just a few years earlier. And the land value appears to be $14,294 –let’s just say I wish that’s what we paid.
Thanks to fellow Eichler owner, Gretchen Steinberg, for finding and kindly sharing the permit. Gretchen runs SacMod (which I’ll certainly cover here in future) plus Eichlerific, a blog that documented her own restoration in our neighborhood.
